THERAPY MATTERS, CHESTER

Pathways to recovery: Posture and movement considerations for maximising recovery potential in the arm and hand.

Current clinical approaches to recovery of upper limb function stress treatment based on high numbers of repetitions of functional tasks to promote motor learning. Movement strategies within this paradigm may often be based on compensatory strategies. Contemporary opinions within the field of motor control cast doubt on the ability of repetitive task training to achieve optimal recovery of movement control as a basis for functional use of the upper limb. It is suggested that consideration is given to the specific nature of movement recovery seeking to enable the individual to 'explore' variable movement patterns as a basis for intensive practice.

This course aims to provide participants with a clear framework to consider key postural foundations for promoting recovery of the upper limb. In association with this it will develop clinical reasoning and movement facilitation skills to enable optimal movement recovery within the arm for integration into functional activities.
