Improving our patients Walking Function in a challenging healthcare environment; how do therapists bring the theory into practice for their neurological patient’s recovery using the Bobath Concept.
Thank you to Walkergate Park Rehabilitation Centre in Newcastle for hosting our Advanced Bobath Course focusing on the recovery of locomotion in a challenging health care environment. We had 18 course participants and they had travelled from all around the world to be at this course (Australia, Korea, Singapore, Croatia, Ireland and of course UK).
The programme was packed with theoretical updates about the neurophysiology of walking, live patient demonstrations that Mary and Clare led, showing improvement of the patients within the week, and discussing the clinical reasoning throughout, together with practical hands-on facilitation skills based on movement control.
All the course participants also treated their own patient with their peers, in the supportive learning environment, developing their knowledge and skills. A clinical case study using the Model of Bobath Clinical Practice (MBCP) highlighting the recovery of a patient who achieved community walking was also shown, using over 8 yrs of video outcomes.
This was a very successful Advanced Bobath course and all the course participants loved it! Their evaluation forms speak for themselves! If you would like to invest in your own skills development, why not come and join us on the next Advanced Bobath Course and enjoy the pleasure of learning new rehabilitation ideas for your patients recovery?
