The National Rehabilitation Hospital Dun Laoghaire, was excited to be involved in Brain Awareness Week this year!
This is an annual global campaign to raise public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Many organisations such as universities, hospitals, advocacy and community groups put on all types of activities, some of them showing incredible imagination.
From the 11th-16thMarch 2019 events were held to increase our understanding of the brain; #loveyourbrain
This year, we had a range of activities that included brain friendly food options in the canteen, talks on stress and wellbeing, mindfulness pods for staff, patients and visitors seated yoga, a very high energy seated zumba session, dance activities and a community choir session accompanied by the fantastic Rathfarnham Ukelele Group.
Use #loveourbrain or #brainawarenessweek2019 to look back at the range of activities, information and resources available on social media to inspire and inform you.
And its not too late! this year Headway is marking Brain Awareness Week from 20thto 26thMay with a focus on fatigue “ Brain Drain – Wake Up to Fatigue!”
There are many resources available that we, as therapists, can signpost patients, families, friends and carers to.
