Sue Armstrong, one of the BBTA Tutors spent a week in the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, teaching a 5 day Introductory Bobath Course to 24 qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The course was organised by Jill Fisher, a Neurological Physiotherapist from Leeds, who has been to CRP on two previous occasions to provide teaching and clinical mentorship, and the staff at CRP who are very keen to develop their clinical skills. Jill accompanied Sue on this trip, and stayed for a further two weeks to help staff consolidate what they had learned on the course. It was a very successful week, the first postgraduate course to be held for Neurological Rehabilitation in Bangladesh. The Tutors fee was waived, but flight costs were met by the Valerie Taylor Trust in the UK, which raises money for the Centre, which was set up by British Physiotherapist Valerie Taylor, 30 years ago! The Centre has gone from strength to strength and now provides rehabilitation and vocational training for adults and children with a range of neurological and orthopaedic problems, as well as health education and training of therapists to degree level within Bangladesh. The course was a great success, and the level of motivation and enthusiasm for learning made teaching the course an absolute pleasure. If anyone is considering voluntary work in a developing country, CRP would be a great experience. website www.crp-bangladesh.org
